We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Canton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Mabank with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Rylee Busby made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Chloe Howe and Bailey Koonce did most of the damage at the plate: Howe got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Koonce scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Koonce a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kara Pride, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Canton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .586 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Lindale never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Athens on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Hornets.
AJ McPherson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Makynli Zemer was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Merrick Gary, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Lindale has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. Canton's win bumped their record up to 12-5-2.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Lindale struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
