Football Game Preview: Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats vs. Waitsburg Cardinals

The Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Waitsburg Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Wilbur-Creston-Keller has given up an average of 27.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Almira-Coulee-Hartline on Friday. They were dealt a 58-0 loss at the hands of the Warriors. It was the first time this season that the Wildcats let down their fans at home.

Meanwhile, Waitsburg played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 64-42 to Sunnyside Christian. The Cardinals were down 48-28 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller will have to contain Jayton Gleason as he made an impact in Waitsburg's last game. He rushed for 303 yards and five scores while picking up 12.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 190 yards on 11 of 26 attempts. Gleason also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.

Even if they lost, Waitsburg's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gleason, Koyen Fortune, and Landen Henry, who each picked up one sack apiece. Waitsburg got some further help from Fortune: he picked up a sack and made 17 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Wilbur-Creston-Keller's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Waitsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
