Volleyball Recap: Fairhaven Starts Season with Win Against Durfee

Fairhaven had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Durfee Hilltoppers 3-2 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since October 4, 2024.

Fairhaven wouldn't go down easily and took Durfee into a fifth set where they got it done with a nine-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Fairhaven was led to victory by Elodie Cook and Braley Boucher. Cook had 16 digs and seven aces, while Boucher had 17 digs and five aces. Those seven aces gave Cook a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Fairhaven was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 19 aces. They served eight more aces than Durfee's also-impressive total of 11.

Despite the loss, Durfee still got an impressive performance from Arihanna Louis Thomas, who had 31 digs and one assist.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairhaven will head out to take on Westport at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Durfee, they will venture away from home to face off against Bridgewater-Raynham at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
