It was a good run, but  Herrin unfortunately witnessed the end of their  11-game winning streak on Friday. They took a  blow against the Mt. Vernon Rams, falling  71-40. The  matchup marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring  contest so far this season.
 Defeat or not, Herrin got some senior leadership from  Kyrese Lukens and  Grady Cox.  Lukens  went 5 of 11  en route to 22  points, while  Cox  went 6 of 9  on his way to 14  points and seven  boards. The  game was  Lukens' fourth in a row with at least ten points.
 Mt. Vernon was led to victory by  David Barnes and  Cale Maurer.  Barnes  almost  dropped  a double-double on 19  points and nine  boards, while  Maurer  went 8 of 10  on his way to 19  points and six  rebounds. The dominant performance also gave  Barnes a new career-high in  assists (four). Another player making a difference was  Brogan Holloway, who  posted 11 points.
Herrin's loss dropped their record down to 13-2. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
 Herrin will face off against Frankfort at 7:15  p.m.  on January 10th. Herrin is facing Frankfort at the right time seeing as Frankfort is stuck on  a  five-game losing streak. As for Mt. Vernon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next  matchup,  a  66-44  win against Cahokia on the 4th.
