Volleyball Recap: Warren Township Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Warren Township dropped their record down to 21-11 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Lake Zurich Bears by a score of 2-1. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Eddie Chand paced Warren Township's offense, picking up nine kills. Chand got some help from Joel Paasch and his 25 assists. Wesley Cowell controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

As for Lake Zurich, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-3 record this season. The victory was familiar territory for they, who have now won four matches in a row.

Lake Zurich's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yani Oblakov, who had 15 assists and six digs. That's the most assists Oblakov has posted over his last eight games.

Warren Township and Lake Zurich should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Blue Devils will take on Lakes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (37 vs. 130). Meanwhile, Lake Zurich (ranked 11th) will meet Huntley (ranked 182nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in the Bears' favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Red Raiders have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
