Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Laylah Lou Walters and Tiffany Deyoung Lead Donovan/St. Anne to Victory

After losing to Grace Christian Academy the last time they met, Donovan/St. Anne decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Donovan/St. Anne strolled past the Grace Christian Academy Crusaders with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 50-34. The win made it back-to-back victories for Donovan/St. Anne.

Donovan/St. Anne was led to victory by Tiffany DeYoung and Laylah Lou Walters. DeYoung dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Walters dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. DeYoung has become a key player for Donovan/St. Anne: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least ten boards, but 5-7 otherwise. Lily Fox was another key player, putting up five points and 11 rebounds.

Donovan/St. Anne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Grace Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zoey Baldridge went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That was a full 38.2% of Grace Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanie St. John, who earned four points and four steals.

Donovan/St. Anne now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Grace Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Donovan/St. Anne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-32 victory against Gardner-South Wilmington on the 3rd. As for Grace Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-37 defeat against Grant Park on the 3rd.
