Basketball Recap: Ironwood Ridge Falls Despite Big Games from Molly Walter and Serenity Hampton

Ironwood Ridge's game on Tuesday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to the Sahuaro Cougars 41-35. The Nighthawks haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Serenity Hampton and Molly Walter certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hampton posted 16 points, while Walter dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Walter is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last six games she's played.

Sahuaro's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maggie Boyd, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points gave Boyd a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anissa Garcia, who went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points and six boards.

Ironwood Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Sahuaro, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Ironwood Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 45-40 loss against Mica Mountain on the 23rd. Sahuaro has also already played their next game (against Salpointe Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
