Basketball Recap: Highland Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kylee Beck and Alli Mae Moddrell

Highland lost against Salmon River back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Highland Huskies took a 48-34 bruising from the Salmon River Savages. The Huskies were down 42-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Alli Mae Moddrell and Kylee Beck certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Moddrell went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points and five rebounds, while Beck posted six points. The dominant performance also gave Beck a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%).

Salmon River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rylee Walters led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Walters has scored at least a third of Salmon River's points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Ewing, who went 5 of 12 to rack up 12 points and five steals.

Highland has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Salmon River, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Salmon River will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cascade at 6:00 p.m. on February 10th.
