Basketball Recap: Emporia Piles Up the Points Against Goddard

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Emporia). They claimed a resounding 84-49 victory over the Goddard Lions. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Lions are ranked 272nd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Emporia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rylan Crowell, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points along with six boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave Crowell a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Harrison Trelc, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points.

Emporia's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Goddard, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Emporia has already played their next match (against Hayden), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Goddard will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Andover Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
