Soccer Recap: Gilbert Takes a Loss

If Gilbert was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of North Augusta last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets who were credited with the victory on Thursday. The Aiken Fighting Green Hornets got it done in the shootout by posting two goals to the Gilbert Indians' one. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Gilbert came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Aiken are ranked 86th).

Having lost for the first time this season, Gilbert fell to 5-1. As for Aiken, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Looking ahead, Gilbert is taking a road trip to challenge South Aiken at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert's defense better be ready for this one: South Aiken has averaged an impressive 3.6 goals per game this season. As for Aiken, they will be playing at home against Gray Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gray Collegiate Academy will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Aiken surely won't give up without a fight.
