Preview: Cashmere Bulldogs vs. Newport Grizzlies
The Cashmere Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Newport Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cashmere is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Cashmere can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over Quincy at home. Given Cashmere's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Quincy is ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Tyler Peterson, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 20 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Rylan Hatmaker, who threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Newport made off with a 28-27 win over Freeman.
Cashmere's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-3 Colville and 6-3 Ephrata (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.2% over those games). As for Newport, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Cashmere against Newport in their previous meeting back in September as the team secured a 56-13 victory. Will Cashmere repeat their success, or does Newport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
