Softball Game Preview: Downingtown East Cougars vs. Avon Grove Red Devils

The Downingtown East Cougars will face off against the Avon Grove Red Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Downingtown East barely beat East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings a 6-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won three games in a row.

Sam Wendig was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Wendig was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, London Schaefer was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hailey Long, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Avon Grove waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 17-0 win. The Red Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Downingtown East's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Avon Grove, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
