Preview: Grant Generals vs. Putnam City West Patriots
The Grant Generals will head out on the road to face off against the Putnam City West Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Grant and five for Putnam City West.
Grant fell victim to Tahlequah's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Tigers, falling 44-0.
Meanwhile, Putnam City West also failed to score in their most recent game. They were outmatched by Stillwater on the road and fell 59-0. While losing is never fun, Putnam City West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Stillwater is ranked 22nd).
Even if they lost, Putnam City West's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Stillwater's QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. Stillwater's QB won't forget Aaron Edwards anytime soon given Edwards sacked him four times.
Grant's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 3.0 points per game. As for Putnam City West, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Grant took a serious blow against Putnam City West in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 68-0. Thankfully for Grant, Isaiah Thomas (who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
