Basketball Recap: Briana Carrion Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Winthrop College Prep Academy

Four Corners won the last time they faced Winthrop College Prep Academy and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Four Corners Coyotes walked away with a 45-35 win over the Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans.

Four Corners' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briana Carrion, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 boards. The dominant performance gave Carrion a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Jorda, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Four Corners was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winthrop College Prep Academy only posted four assists.

Despite the loss, Winthrop College Prep Academy still got an impressive performance from JoLesa Birkhead, who almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine steals. Birkhead has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Four Corners has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points per game. As for Winthrop College Prep Academy, their record now sits at 7-17.

Four Corners and Winthrop College Prep Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Four Corners will square off against Jordan Christian Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday down 196 places (353 vs. 157). Meanwhile, Winthrop College Prep Academy (ranked 464th) will meet Tampa Catholic (ranked 69th) on Tuesday.
