The Stuart Broncos are taking a road trip to square off against the Shelton Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, everything came up roses for Stuart against Hampton as the squad secured a 53-20 victory. With the Broncos ahead 38-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
It was another big night for Owen Littau, who rushed for 85 yards and three TDs on only eight carries, and also caught one score. Another player making a difference was Kayde Ramm, who threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
Stuart didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hampton to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. The Broncos hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.36 or higher in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Stuart didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Littau and Drew Schmaderer. Littau got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shelton). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Santee 67-7. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Stuart better focus on containing Jhet Hagan and Justin Wiehn as the pair were huge in Shelton's win. Hagan rushed for 60 yards and a pair of TDs, while Wiehn rushed for 44 yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave Wiehn a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Brooks Lowe made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Stuart pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 57.8 points this season. As for Shelton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Stuart has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Shelton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 167.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Stuart against Shelton in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 35-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
