2A Tri-Peaks recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Trinidad, who took down 68th ranked Lamar, 41-32. Chris DeAngelis ran for 230 yards in the win.
La Junta took down Dolores Huerta Prep 55-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Alamosa's dynamic duo of Zach Meyer and Bailey Garcia proved tough for St. Mary's to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Meyer threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns and Garcia had 162 yards receiving. Jacob Heaton helped Alamosa's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 99 yards.
Ben Breier was the most productive running back in 2A Tri-Peaks this week. He ran for 238 yards on 35 carries as the Pirates fell to the Pirates. Logan Elliott also contributed to the rushing game with 38 yards on the ground.
Alamosa's Meyer and Heaton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Meyer has thrown for 1107 yards this season, while Heaton, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 35 catches for 394 yards. DeAngelis from the Miners leads the league in rushing with 943 yards.
Trinidad's DeAngelis needs only 57 yards against Al Ford's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Randy Begano's team takes on the Maroons. The Miners' offense has racked up 156 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Alamosa has allowed only 169 on the year.
A big matchup in 2A Tri-Peaks this week will be when St. Mary's takes on the Tigers. Nic Olney's team is currently in fifth, while La Junta is in third.
Clint Buderus's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Scorpions.
