Basketball Recap: Fortune Early College Takes Down Portola in a Playoff Battle

Fortune Early College had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Portola Tigers on Tuesday as the Fortune Early College Panthers made off with an 80-57 victory. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Fortune Early College's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mekhi Tanner led the charge by putting up 18 points and five assists. Tanner has been hot, having posted 17 or more points the last five times he's played. Kaden Bean was another key player, posting 14 points and six steals.

Despite the loss, Portola still got an impressive performance from Magnus Berg, who posted 30 points. That's the most points Berg has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Sheridan, who scored 11 points.

Fortune Early College is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.5 points over those games. Portola's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-9.

Fortune Early College wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-55 win against Weed on the 6th. Portola does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
