Baseball Recap: Marcos De Niza Wins Going Away Against Maryvale

Marcos de Niza came out on top against Maryvale on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run seventh inning. The Padres blew past the Panthers 19-8. That's two games straight that the Padres have won by exactly 11 runs.

Izayiah Abril made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Marcos de Niza's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 6-16 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jackson Matherson was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Marcos de Niza kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Marcos de Niza and bumps their season record up to 10-17. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Maryvale, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-13.

As of now, neither Marcos de Niza nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
