League recap: South Stanly's Poplin delivers best pitching performance from past week

1A Yadkin Valley league recap: 3/20/13

Chase Poplin was the best pitcher in 1A Yadkin Valley this week, leading South Stanly. He won one game and retired 11 batters.

First place in the league standings is up for grabs this week, as West Montgomery sits just 0.5 games back of the Rowdy Rebel Bulls.

East Montgomery's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing nine hits and one walk to lead the league in both categories.

Chatham Central had a league-high 13 steals as a team this week, but still trails South Stanly, which has 22 on the year, for the season lead.

There were 14 hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. The group was paced by Matthew Glidewell, who collected three hits in five at bats for a .600 average.



Chase Fuquay drove in five runners as Chatham Central defeated South Davidson 22-1 on Tuesday. He went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.

Poplin threw a shutout as he led the Rowdy Rebel Bulls to victory over West Stanly, 7-0, on Saturday. He struck out 11, allowing three hits.
