Softball Recap: Northwestern Wins Going Away Against Waynedale

Northwestern not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 29th. Everything went their way against the Waynedale Golden Bears as they made off with a 14-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Taylor Wurst made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Gabby Cuber was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Coralyn Hall, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

The win made it two in a row for Northwestern and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Waynedale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Northwestern will square off against Western Brown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Waynedale, they are taking a road trip to challenge Chippewa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Bears are facing the Chipps at the right time seeing as the Chipps are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
