Softball Game Preview: Westfield Bombers vs. Hampshire Regional Raiders

The Westfield Bombers will face off against the Hampshire Regional Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Westfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Minnechaug Regional on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Hampshire Regional put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Agawam 11-1.

Ryanne Dubay1 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caelyn Thayor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Teagan Charles was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hampshire Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.

Hampshire Regional pushed their record up to 12-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.3 runs this season. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
