The North Marion Colts will head out on the road to face off against the West Port Wolf Pack at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between North Marion and Belleview, and Belleview kept the tradition alive. The Colts fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 3-2 on Monday.
North Marion took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 26-28, 25-9, 15-11.
Meanwhile, West Port didn't have quite enough to beat Wekiva on Tuesday and fell 3-2.
West Port wouldn't go down easily and took Wekiva into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 15-6.
North Marion will have to contain Luis Monserat as he made an impact in West Port's last game. He had 26 digs and three aces. Monserat has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more digs the last four times he's played.
West Port has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for North Marion, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.
North Marion came out on top in a nail-biter against West Port when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Monserat, who had 24 digs and five aces. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Colts still be able to contain Monserat? There's only one way to find out.
