Volleyball Recap: Marblehead Falls Despite Big Games from Sydney Da Silva and Sydney Faris

After flying high against Beverly on Wednesday, Marblehead came back down to earth. The Magicians lost 3-0 to the Burlington Red Devils on Friday. The Magicians' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Marblehead was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-18.

Marblehead's loss came despite strong showings from Sydney Faris and Sydney Da Silva. Faris had nine digs and three aces, while Da Silva had seven digs and four assists. Faris is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played dating back to last season.

Marblehead suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Burlington, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Marblehead and Burlington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Magicians will take on Danvers at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (56 vs. 251). Meanwhile, Burlington (ranked 40th) will meet Wilmington (ranked 269th) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
