Softball Game Preview: Mercer County Titans vs. Assumption Rockets

The Mercer County Titans will head out to face off against the Assumption Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mercer County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Mercer County came up short against North Laurel and fell 10-5.

Jaley Bowman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Assumption entered their tilt with West Washington on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Senators by a score of 5-1. Five seems to be a good number for the Rockets as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Ava Lou Mattingly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harper Poole, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Jaelynn Oaks also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Assumption was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Washington only posted a batting average of .100.

Mercer County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season. As for Assumption, their win bumped their record up to 24-8.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Mercer County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Assumption struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs.
