Baseball Game Preview: Heritage Panthers vs. Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks

The Heritage Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

Heritage heads in on the heels of a playoff game last Tuesday. They fell just short of Okeechobee by a score of 4-3. The Panthers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Heritage saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hezekiah Sprankle, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Archbishop McCarthy waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Nick Llinas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Archbishop McCarthy got a big performance out of Danny Machado, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Alejandro Cabral was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Archbishop McCarthy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Archbishop McCarthy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-11. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-11.
