Baseball Recap: Carroll Triumphs

Carroll hadn't done well against Carmel recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Greyhounds, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chargers have posted since April 3rd.

Carroll got a great performance from Aiden Stephan as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Stephan has become a key player for the Chargers: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Carroll's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Adler Kellams, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Carter Irons also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Carroll has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Carmel, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Carroll will face off against Norwell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Carmel, they will challenge Noblesville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Millers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Greyhounds' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
