Basketball Recap: Gavin Ward's Big Game Can't Quite Lead James Island over Myers Park

If James Island was feeling good fresh off their 61-38 takedown of Wando last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The James Island Trojans lost to the Myers Park Mustangs on the road by a 61-42 margin on Friday.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Ward, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Gladden, who earned nine points.

Myers Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Sweet, who put up eight points along with six blocks and three steals. Those three steals gave Sweet a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bram Early, who had 15 points and five rebounds.

James Island's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Myers Park, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-7.

James Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-40 defeat against Cardinal Newman on the 28th. As for Myers Park, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-29 win against First Baptist School on the 28th.
