Volleyball Recap: Ellie Collins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Alleghany over East Wilkes

After flying high against North Stokes on Monday, Alleghany came back down to earth. The Trojans fell 3-1 to the East Wilkes Cardinals on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on September 4th.

Alleghany's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Collins, who had 25 digs, 18 kills, and two aces. Collins is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least five every time she's taken the court this season. Lilly Carrillo was another key player, getting 26 digs and one block.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Wilkes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olivia Staley, who had 15 digs, 14 kills, and two aces. Gracelynn Whitt also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Alleghany's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for East Wilkes, their win ended a ten-match drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-12.

Alleghany didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Wilkes Central on the 2nd. As for East Wilkes, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Surry Central on the 1st.
