Basketball Recap: Hilltop Takes a Loss

Hilltop played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Kearny Komets and fell 83-46. The Lancers haven't had much luck with the Komets recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Hilltop still got an impressive performance from Roman Miramontes, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. Miramontes is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Adrian Alvarez was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Cameron Ackerman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Kearny, going 9 of 18 on his way to 20 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. That's the most blocks Ackerman has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Arthur Minton, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

Hilltop's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Kearny, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Hilltop and Kearny could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Hilltop (ranked 883rd) will meet Crawford (ranked 268th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kearny (ranked 448th) will meet Fallbrook (ranked 218th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
