Basketball Recap: Yuma Comes Up Short

Yuma lost against Gila Ridge back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Yuma Criminals received a blow as they fell 53-38 to the Gila Ridge Hawks. The Criminals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kayla McCarrell had a dynamite game for Gila Ridge, going 10 for 17 en route to 24 points in addition to six boards and four steals. McCarrell has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Arianna Hernandez was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

Yuma's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Gila Ridge, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11.

Yuma has already played their next matchup, an 86-26 win against Cortez on the 22nd. As for Gila Ridge, they will challenge Kofa at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Kofa will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Gila Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
