After flying high against Buffalo last Tuesday, Mexia came back down to earth. The Mexia Black Cats took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkhart Elks on Friday. The Black Cats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Austin Williford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits.

At the plate, Braden Wilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriano Mendoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Mexia's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Elkhart, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-10.

Coming up, Mexia will head out to take on Groesbeck at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Groesbeck's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Mexia's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Elkhart, they will welcome Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
