Softball Recap: Portales Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Portales ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Clovis Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted against the Wildcats since April 10, 2024.

Amaya Lujan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ruth Espinoza was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Addyson Mayberry was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple and one run.

Portales kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Portales' win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Clovis, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portales beat the Wildcats by a score of 12-11 later that day.
