Softball Recap: Economedes Takes a Loss

Economedes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-4 to the La Joya Coyotes, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Jaguars of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Adrienne Tagle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Economedes saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natasha Gonzalez, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Aissa Garcia also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Economedes' loss dropped their record down to 4-10-1. As for La Joya, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Economedes will take on rival Weslaco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, La Joya is set to challenge their familiar foe Pharr-San Juan-Alamo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
