Live Oak has gone 8-2 against Denham Springs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Live Oak Eagles will square off against the Denham Springs Yellowjackets at 2:00 p.m. Live Oak will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Live Oak gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against East Ascension by a score of 6-1.
Zant Gurney looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mac Beadle, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Allen, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Live Oak hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Denham Springs, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Riverside Academy on Thursday. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Denham Springs pushed their record up to 20-3-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Live Oak, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Live Oak hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Denham Springs struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Live Oak skirted past Denham Springs 7-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Live Oak since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
