Baseball Recap: Denbigh's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Denbigh came into Friday's game having lost 12 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over the Woodside Wolverines on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Jah'Son Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Denbigh is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-13 otherwise. Smith was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Blazek, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Luis Caez Rodriguez, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs.

Denbigh always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodside only posted an OBP of .353.

Denbigh's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Woodside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Denbigh will square off against Norview at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Woodside, they will face off against Kecoughtan at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
