Softball Recap: Spearfish Takes a Loss

Mitchell hit Spearfish with a five-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 12-1 to the Kernels. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Kernels from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Danika Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Jayden Wenzel also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Spearfish's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Mitchell, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spearfish will host Stevens on Tuesday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mitchell, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Harrisburg at 5:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for the Kernels: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Tigers have snatched up nine consecutive wins on the road.
