Baseball Recap: St. Thomas More Comes Up Short

St. Thomas More had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it six. They came up short against the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons, falling 11-3. If the Sabers were looking for revenge after losing 4-2 to the Falcons when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's part, Zeb Greer made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. What's more, Greer posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Graydon Leonard was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley is undefeated when Leonard posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Elliott, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Thomas More will face off against St. Teresa at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they will challenge Tremont at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Turks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
