Football Game Preview: Berea Pirates vs. Sayre Spartans

Berea is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Sayre Spartans at 7:30 p.m.

Berea came up short against Jackson County on Thursday, falling 28-6. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Generals: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Sayre entered their tilt with Holy Cross on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They enjoyed a cozy 34-20 win over the Cougars.

Berea better keep an eye on Ca'Den Jones. He was instrumental in Sayre's win, rushing for 127 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 83 receiving yards and one score. Those 127 rushing yards gave Jones a new career-high.

Sayre was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holy Cross only rushed for ten.

Sayre didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Moore and Beau Perry.

Sayre's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Berea, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Berea was taken down by Sayre 56-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Pirates were down 42-7.
