Preview: Cathedral Academy Generals vs. St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers

Cathedral Academy is 9-1 against St. John's Christian Academy since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Cathedral Academy Generals will head out on the road to square off against the St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cathedral Academy has eight straight victories, St. John's Christian Academy has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Cathedral Academy stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Dorchester Academy with a sharp 59-34 victory.

Cathedral Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalyn Almeida out in front who scored 18 points. Claire Griffin was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but St. John's Christian Academy had to settle for a 42-39 defeat against Clarendon Hall on Tuesday. St. John's Christian Academy has struggled against Clarendon Hall recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Kylie Finley, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. She also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler Cumbie, who scored three points along with ten rebounds.

St. John's Christian Academy used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Clarendon Hall. Three players hit the court for the first time this season: Taylor Douet, Finley, and Cumbie. The new lineup might be seeing more playing time going forward considering the group combined for a total of 31 points and 11 assist.

Cathedral Academy pushed their record up to 17-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for St. John's Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Everything went Cathedral Academy's way against St. John's Christian Academy in their previous meeting two weeks ago as Cathedral Academy made off with a 53-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cathedral Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
