Basketball Recap: Holyoke Comes Up Short

Holyoke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Simla Cubs, falling 55-25. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the Cubs are ranked 60th).

Sophia Bencomo was Holyoke's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Anessa Colglazier held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Simla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katie Gotschall, who went 11-for-19 en route to 24 points. Gotschall is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Carlee Cox, who posted 14 points in addition to seven steals and six assists.

Holyoke's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Simla, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Holyoke and Simla's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Holyoke and Merino (who has only given up 27.89 points per game) will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Simla will face off against Hoehne at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, a squad that's only allowed 26.15 points per game.
