Soccer Game Preview: South Gwinnett vs. Lanier

The South Gwinnett Comets will take on the Lanier Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Gwinnett is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.7 goals per game this season.

South Gwinnett made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Central Gwinnett, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets never let the Black Knights get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Tuesday. Given South Gwinnett's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Central Gwinnett are ranked 287th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Gwinnett hit Central Gwinnett with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Rahjae Nelson, Ronaldo Barnett, and Shiloh Murphy.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 2-2 at halftime, Lanier was not quite Berkmar's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They lost 8-4 to the Patriots. The loss continues a trend for Lanier in their meetings with Berkmar: they've now lost four in a row.

South Gwinnett's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-9-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those four matchups. As for Lanier, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10-1.
