Basketball Recap: Bree Heidecker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbia over Smithville

If Columbia was feeling good fresh off their 57-22 takedown of Oberlin last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Columbia Raiders took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Smithville Smithies. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Smithies are ranked 54th).

Columbia lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Bree Heidecker, who went 6 of 7 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Miller, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Smithville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Columbia will square off against Clearview at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season. As for Smithville, they will challenge Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
