Volleyball Recap: Max Medrano Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Westlake

Oaks Christian took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Westlake, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 3-2. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Oaks Christian wouldn't go down easily and took Westlake into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-15, 23-25, 21-25, 16-14.

Oaks Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Max Medrano led the charge by getting 16 digs and one assist. Medrano is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games he's played.

The win made it two in a row for Oaks Christian and bumps their season record up to 7-14. As for Westlake, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.

Oaks Christian has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Thousand Oaks on the 2nd. As for Westlake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Bishop Diego on the 1st.
