Recap: Pagosa Springs Pirates vs. Montrose Red Hawks
The Pagosa Springs Pirates fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Montrose Red Hawks on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 40-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Hawks. Pagosa Springs has not had much luck with Montrose recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Pagosa Springs' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colt Lewis, who scored 12 points. Lewis scored a full 33.3% of Pagosa Springs' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Blake Laner, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds.
Kaleb Ferguson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Montrose's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Wareham, who scored 6 points.
Pagosa Springs' loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Montrose, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Pagosa Springs and Bayfield will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Montrose, they will head out on the road to face off against Delta at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Delta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Montrose is ranked 25th).
