The Monte Vista Monarchs will square off against the West Hills Wolf Pack at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Monte Vista is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Steele Canyon on Friday as they made off with an 18-10 win. The Monarchs not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 21, 2024 (when they won 11-3).
Reuben Cabugwas and Damian Ordaz did most of the damage at the plate: Cabugwas went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and one double, while Ordaz got on base in all six of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. What's more, Ordaz posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Antonio Mccomb was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Monte Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, West Hills waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Matadors 18-5. Considering the Wolf Pack have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Carson-Kai Lewis was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. West Hills is 7-1 when Lewis posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, West Hills let Joey Monetti and Ethan Vergne run wild. Monetti went 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Vergne went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Monetti is becoming a predictor of West Hills' success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Riley Kulak, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Monte Vista's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-15. As for West Hills, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
