Highland is a perfect 9-0 against Century since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Highland Rams are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will square off against the Century Diamondbacks at 3:00 p.m. Highland will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Highland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Duchesne, who was ranked tenth in their home state at the time (Highland was ranked first). Highland came out on top in a nail-biter against Duchesne on Saturday, sneaking past 4-3. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The team relied heavily on Janae Whitehead, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Cedar Lacey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Duchesne only posted a batting average of .238.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Century, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Marsh Valley 5-4. The Diamondbacks haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Century's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Castorena, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Kennadi Ozburn was another, scoring a run and stealing Two bases.
Century now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Highland, their record is now 5-0.
Century's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Highland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. It's a different story for Century, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Highland's hitters?
Everything went Highland's way against Century in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Highland made off with a 12-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Highland since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
