Softball Game Preview: Bishop Manogue Miners vs. Galena Grizzlies

The Bishop Manogue Miners will venture away from home to square off against the Galena Grizzlies at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Manogue's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Galena's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bishop Manogue fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against McQueen on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 4-3.

Meanwhile, Galena faced Spanish Springs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Grizzlies came up short against the Cougars, falling 12-2. The Grizzlies' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Brea Angle put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed over her last three matchups. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Angle wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kalia Kaululaau, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Kaululaau also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Bishop Manogue's record is now 13-8-1. As for Galena, their record now sits at 7-15-1.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Manogue hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Galena struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Bishop Manogue took their win against Galena when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-1 score. Do the Miners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
