Red Bud is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Wesclin is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Musketeers will welcome the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Bud is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Red Bud beat Carlyle 6-1.
Derrick Whelan was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Red Bud was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlyle only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wesclin). They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Valmeyer on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The team relied heavily on Owen Szpila, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Landon Middleton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Red Bud has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wesclin, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Wesclin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Red Bud hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Wesclin, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Red Bud's hitters?
Red Bud came out on top in a nail-biter against Wesclin in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Musketeers repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
