Basketball Recap: Coronado Takes a Loss

Coronado's tournament run continued when they took on South Mountain on Saturday. The Coronado Dons were beaten by the South Mountain Jaguars 62-18. The match marked the Dons' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Zariah Tsosie was Coronado's leading scorer, having posted six points. Jayda Begay held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

It was another big night for Bry'Ann Wiley, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 19 points along with six boards and five steals for South Mountain. Wiley is becoming a predictor of South Mountain's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Asia Martin, who posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Coronado has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for South Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-47 win against Cortez on the 7th. As for South Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-26 defeat against Basha on the 7th.
