Baseball Recap: South Charleston Finds Home Field Redemption Against Nitro

There's no place like home for South Charleston, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Nitro Wildcats a 3-0 shutout on Wednesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-1 back in March.

Not much got past Braxton Burke, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Nitro off the board. Burke is becoming a predictor of South Charleston's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 7-12 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Akers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

With the victory, South Charleston broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-13. As for Nitro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Charleston will host Oak Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Black Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Nitro, they will welcome Winfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
